Designer artist, Christine has her studio in Giverny (France).
She works with metal sheets: cut up, welded and assembled into low-relief (bas-relief) sculptures.
She also works with paper: collages on raw linen canvas and oil painting.
She uses metal and paper, inverting their substances: “metal is fluid, paper is heavy”, “paper becomes a living, massive and thick material, metal is balanced between emptiness and fullness, between shadows and lights”.
Her metallic sculptures are based on the representation of the Tree and, through the Tree, the Nourishing Earth. In this Earth, the Tree sends down roots, draws its strength, reaches upwards, traces powerful and vigorous lines: its branches alive from the presence of a single leaf but also its hewn dead branches, trees cut down, recumbent, as if returning to the Nourishing Earth. From vegetus – vigorous – to dead wood, the branch and its remaining suspended leaf, soaring in an ultimate leap before its final fall against the dying trunk, all represented in the same bas-relief.
She plays with the delicacy of gold, the shine of oil paint, the polish and the austerity of metal.
Her collages are inspired by the Nourishing Earth, it is the link between Earth and Sky.
Horizontality: « Landscapes of Beauce » plowed, scratched fields, overturned earth, limited by the presence of barbed wire, infinite, contained and overflowing, furrows, fences, solitude, immutability, silence, between emptiness and material, between space and work .
Verticality: « Birches », silhouettes drawn up, links between ground and sky.
